This activity is designed to bring awareness to elder abuse and neglect. Elder abuse, neglect and exploitation are common and have serious consequences. The hospital setting, particularly the Emergency Department, offers an ideal opportunity to identify and intervene. Experts from the Weill Cornell/New York-Presbyterian’s Vulnerable Elder Protection Team (VEPT) will share insight from their multi-disciplinary approach to address elder mistreatment with the intent to increase patient outcomes and safety.

- Identify injury patterns and clinical findings associated with physical elder abuse.
- Describe steps to ensure complete documentation of findings, ensure patient safety, and reporting to authorities as appropriate.
- Describe potential benefits and limitations of screening.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for advanced practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, social workers, and other interested healthcare professionals.
Method of Participation
Participants view the presentation and listen to the synchronized audio of the recorded lecture. After completing the activity, participants must complete an evaluation and a post-test in which they must answer at least 80% of the answers correctly in order to receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. The participant cannot proceed to request credit until this score is achieved.To claim MOC, the following steps must be completed:1. Pre-test prior to viewing the recording,2. View the recording in its entirety,3. Successfully pass a post-test with a score of 80%, and 4.
